Holy and Blameless

“ According as He hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him.”(Ephesians 1:4)

When He called out your name before the foundations of the earth, he called you holy and blameless before Him in love. You are without reproach in His eyes. He sees you as holy and without reproach or blame because you are in Jesus. Since Jesus cannot get any more holy than He is as He is seated at the right hand of His father, then neither can you become more holy in God's eyes.

If you have never learned of your position in Christ, you may feel defeat each and every time you sin or miss the mark in life. You may be striving in some way to do penance for your sin. These first verses of Ephesians clearly teach us we are seated with Him in heavenly places and God sees us as without reproach in Christ. You cannot become any more holy than you are in God's eyes at this moment.

“While we look not at the things which are seen [our mistakes and failures], but at the things which are not seen [our heavenly position]: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” II Corinthians 4:18

When you miss the mark and commit sin, God still sees you through the blood of Jesus who became your substitute on the cross. I John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” In the Amplified Bible, it is translated...

”If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].”

Our position in Christ in no way gives us license to sin or live an unholy life but it does remove the attitude of being defeated by the sin in our lives. We are without reproach, holy, and without blame, before Him in love. He has accepted us in Jesus Christ long before we decided to accept Him.
